Decided to fire up a quick game when I should have been in bed last night... Watched two of my colonists walk to the corner of the map to pick up some random meat.... and then walk past my colony to a spot on the OTHER edge of the map to make stacks... and then walk away from those stacks and return to my colony with empty hands.... Then I received a new NCO... who was weaponless... after building up my colony so that I could exploit the fortuitously located iron ore surface nodes near my colony, I made some charcoal.... then an iron ingot... and then tried a pistol... and it worked. And I felt that silly glow of accomplishment... and I almost didn't care about my far wandering meat chasers... Tonight will be a musket for my recently immigrated foot soldier. For the glory of the Empire!
