Weapon Penalties and stat bonuses

    Hey, I'm using a pure magic build, so I have absolutely no weapon skills. However, thanks to my early-maxed alchemy tree, I made myself two jingly-jangly staves of crystals, and I'm currently dual-wielding them to reap the stat bonuses, particularly +10 magic power.

    I obviously have the hands full and bad weapon penalties as a consequence, but I don't really fight that much, so I'd just like to know if those penalties detract from the stat bonuses on my staves.

    Not as far as I'm aware. I could be wrong, but from what I've seen those 2 penalties only take effect when you actually try to smack something in melee: at that point, the penalties kick in and nerf the damage you're (supposed to be) doing all to hell. I've had "bad weapons" with say, 10 points of total damage dealing less damage than "good weapons" with 5 points of total damage.

    Marak is correct. Either way in 1.07 weapon penalties are getting removed.

    Dual Wielding penalties will remain, though. :)
