In the Tinker menu in the crafting interface, every recipe's components shows a nice informative tooltip, but for some reason, the trap recipes do not show any tooltip on the traps themselves. I've no idea what the traps are just from the icons, so I can't really tell what is supposed to be crafted from each. Also: some of the recipes are listed twice in the interface. The Crude Knife, for example, appears at the top and at the bottom of the list of recipes. I can't recall if I found the recipe during the game, in a bookshelf, and that was why it was added, or if it was like that from the beginning of the game.
